About
Hi. Welcome to Healdsburg Magazine, a new media magazine dedicated to life and events (and everything local) in and around Healdsburg, California.
I’m Jennifer. I have been living in Healdsburg since 2001. I am a content strategist, a content developer, an information architect, and a usability designer. That is, I design and create information for online consumption. I also work with search engine optimization (organic rankings of course), creating content strategies–and when I can–creating websites themselves. Currently, I consult on:
- design and implementation of interactive online presences
- web marketing, web strategy, website development, and training
- information architecture, information design
- user experience and website usability
- organic search engine optimization (SEO) analysis and development
- content strategy and optimized content creation
- social media strategies
- RSS strategies & implementation
- blog implementation and coaching
- dynamic web publishing
- WordPress and other content management systems
- computer and internet skills
I have been working in the telecommunications industry since 1991. I used to write the user manuals for communications networking equipment. I wrote about how to make a piece of equipment work by itself and to talk to other pieces of network equipment. Basically, I created source documentation on the equipment and the technology that makes your phone and internet services work.
And now, I’ve started this magazine. I am a writer and a blogger. That’s just what I do. However, in this world of evolving technology, I also want to start using audio, video, mobile, and other forms of communication. I’ve been blogging at YukonJen.com since April 2005. Over the last few years, I’ve had a lot of questions from people about the area I live in–instead of the area I grew up in. I’ve started a few other websites too, but I’m now making this magazine site my new online home.
I’ve started this magazine to give a local perspective on everyday life in and around Healdsburg, California. I know that a lot of people visit Healdsburg. I know that the wine industry draws a lot of traffic. But I also know that there’s not a whole lot of authentic content out there on what life is really like here. About our local characters, about our history, about why we actually live here in the first place.
I’ve recently started this project with Hotel Healdsburg — to create a shopping, dining, strolling guide to historic Healdsburg. HOW EXCITING IS THAT? I actually get to go out and explore and discover interesting stories, write about them, and publish them on this magazine.
Welcome. Browse around. And enjoy.
Jennifer
